i'm outta there....
well, once again i resigned from the freedom center, a group i've had mixed feelings about for a long time and quit once before, only to start going back to support group meetings secretly last summer. then it got all hideous again so i quit & this time sent an official resignation letter.
there were many good things about the freedom center's support group and i met a number of really cool people there. that's the main reason i kept going back - i don't really know other ways to keep meeting cool new people. unfortuntately everything that makes the group great also makes it really fucked up & scary. i've seen hideous things happen and a couple hideous things have happened to me. and although people have been more than happy to foist responsibility upon me when i'm not asking for it, they tend to resist my efforts to help when i actually want to change things for the better.
i learned a LOT last winter when i had to quit the freedom center in order to help out a couple friends (and save myself) because the things that were necessary went against the freedom-fried dogma of FC. so i decided, finally, to start my own website where i could share what i've learned and list the resources i've found and talk about ethican quandaries w/out anyone trying to shut me up.
so there. that's what this site is for, and... no, i'm not going to be your counselor and i will not fix your computer. i'm just a person. i like to help my friends when i have some kind of skill that is useful, but i don't like it when people demand things from me or when strangers ask me to take on their problems. i call this "guerrilla mental health" because it's renegade. i'm one person living in one town and i'm pulling together resources of the type that i might use or that some of my friends might use.
i want to share anything i've found that has been helpful to myself or my friends. i'm not into dogma and i'm not into religion and i'm not into movements and i'm not a joiner. i do hope that some people will find this site useful. there's no reason why all the research i've done over the past year or so should go to waste. so i'll share whatever i feel like sharing.
for now: don't go on klonapin (clonazepam) unless it's an emergency & for very short-term use!!! that shit is VERY addictive and getting off it is hell. it's particularly seductive because of the relief it provides in the beginning... but eventually it stops working. then, the only thing to do is raise the dose. that's what happens to tons of people. so that's the tip of the day: stay away from klonopin!!! and if you're on it, DO NOT go off cold-turkey!!!! go to benzo.org.uk to get information on how to taper off safely and bring it to your doctor. taper as slowly as you possibly can.
